Sanford Health in South Dakota Uses IVTM for Spinal Cord Injuries

Thermogard XP November 28, 2012 - Sanford Health in South Dakota is one of the first medical centers to use ZOLL’s Intravascular Temperature Management system (IVTM™) for spinal cord injuries. The medical staff recently used IVTM successfully to cool and rewarm a 20-year-old college student who fractured several vertebrae in October when he overcorrected the SUV he was driving to the Black Hills and rolled over 4-5 times. ZOLL IVTM was used to drop his temperature down to 91 degrees internally to reduce the swelling of his spinal cord. The Oak Park, Ill., native has since regained an inch of sensation in his chest and can now use his hands. He was transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute in Chicago last week to begin therapy.

ZOLL IVTM is the same therapy that was used on former Buffalo Bills tight end, Kevin Everett, when he was paralyzed during the 2007 season opener.
